Budapest high schoolers can now get it on safely between classes
Condom vending machines have been installed at four Budapest high schools, reports Blikk, which helpfully illustrated their piece with this image of an all-too eager student. While the parents of some teens at first freaked out about the idea, others pointed out that the kids are getting it on anyway, so they might as well be safe. The machine, which dispenses rubbers for Ft 200 (€0.80), caught some students by surprise, but they acknowledged it made sense, a decision further bolstered by stats from the National Health Development Institute (Országos Egészségfejlesztési Intézet), which stated that 16 to 17-year-olds regularly have sex, and nearly half of 12 to 13-year-olds have had sex at least once. Dr Rita Simich, department head of the institute, said that the machines perfectly fit into the health education program of youngsters, which started five years ago and until now had included lectures, pamphlets and books. After the machines were installed at four schools, more institutions indicated that they would be interested in joining the program. Students, meanwhile, have expressed their interest in further educating themselves about sex, preferably in hands-on assignments.
